Where can I find written burning regulations for Oregon?

Oregon Fire Code is not responsible for a vast majority of burning regulations.  A limited amount of burning regulations per Oregon Fire Code are listed on the bottom of your valid burning permit. The remainder of the open burning regulations including smoke management are listed under the Oregon Administrative Rules Division 264 Rules for Open Burning and enforced by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

Burning permits are issued throughout the calendar year for all Class 1 Open Yard Debris and Class 2 Burn Barrels. All burning permits expire effective May 1st. of each calendar year prior to the beginning of regulated fire season. Permits must be reissued on an annual basis. Where can you find posted information for burning restrictions or regulated closures?

Normally, the only time the district goes into restricted burning regulations or closures is during the summer months when the Oregon Department of Forestry initiates fire season. Open burning is restricted when fire season begins with Level 1, and all burn barrels are restricted when Level 2 is initiated unless otherwise posted. The district will advertise restrictions prior to the start of fire season in the local newspaper Headlight Herald. Additional information on restrictions can be obtained by contacting the district office.
